 What is Fibromyalgia Medication?

People with fibromyalgia symptoms are throbbing with muscle aches and shooting pains. Apart from this they also suffer from fatigue and disturbed sleep everyday. There are many techniques to treat this symptom like medication, cognitive behavior technique, exercise, relaxation therapy, yoga, trigger point injection technique and so on. But the most effective treatment is with fibromyalgia medication that can relieve the symptoms much faster.

There are different types of medication given according to your body and the symptoms of the disorder.  At first your doctor would diagnose the symptoms and then start your treatment.  Understand that medication is not a fibromyalgia cure.  It can only be used to manage the syndrome.

Chronic Opioid Analgesic Therapy (COAT)
Opoid is a pharmaceutical drug, which works by blocking the areas of the nerves that process pain signals from the body. This drug treats fibromyalgia syndrome effectively and improves the quality of life by improving your physical function, physical component, body pain, general health, vitality, social functioning, emotional component, and mental health. It also improves your sleeping pattern to relieve you from the chronic pain.

Use of Anticonvulsants
Hyper sensitization of the central nervous system is a common cause of fibromyalgia. It is thought that generalized pain signals are transmitted more frequently than they should be. In that case this drug would bring this excess firing down to more normal levels.

ULTRACET
Ultracet is a pain medication that acts directly on the parts of the brain where pain is perceived and on the spinal cord where pain signals are transmitted. Through this action it not only reduces the pain but also reduces the size of the pain signals from one nerve to other. But this treatment is not advisable to those who have life treating allergic reaction to opoids and codeine.

The pain and stiffness caused by fibromyalgia can be reduced by analgesics like Acetaminophen. Some antidepressants would help to promote better sleep. Muscle relaxants would help treat muscle pain and spasms.

Prozac and Antidepressants
Most experts agree that Prozac, the brand name for fluoxetine, is one of the best antidepressant drugs ever designed. It causes fewer adverse effects than the new generation of antidepressants.  Because it helps to relieve depression, it is often prescribed for fibromyalgia as an overall symptom reducer.  Other antidepressants are prescribed, but not in combination with Prozac or most other drugs. Although medication is available to help with the symptoms, patients with fibromyalgia syndrome should review all other treatments that are available and not rely on drugs alone.

Fact
Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Syndrome - This syndrome, sometimes referred to as TMJ or TMD, causes tremendous jaw-related face and head pain in one-quarter of fibromyalgia patients. However, a 1996 published report indicated that close to 75% of fibromyalgia patients have a varying degree of jaw discomfort. Typically, the problems are related to the muscles and ligaments surrounding the jaw joint and not necessarily the joint itself. ~ AFSA
